Paypal holds funds to refund buyer

Had a strange ebay buyer that waited a week to notify Paypal/ebay that they wanted to return expensive item for a refund. Christmas eve I received the notification from ebay. I accepted the return request & straight away Paypal put my account on debit. A sale on ebay since covered the debit & my account was back in credit. So Paypal have swiped the funds. I assume that means when the item arrives back to me, I don't do anything? If I manually refund, I will be out of the money twice?

Am I right assuming the buyer will action the refund by proving the item has arrived back to me?

Have accepted returns before but the buyer contacted me direct & we did it the civilised way, so this is all new to me after 12 years buying & selling on here.
