GREAT question....
Most payments sent through PayPal clear to the sellers immediately. The only time there is a delay is if the buyer sends the payment as an echeck. This can take 3-4 business days to deposit into the sellers account as it is coming directly from the buyers financial institution.
I would not ship merchandise until you receive payment and you can see it in your PayPal account.
If the payment is sent via echeck you will be able to see that in your history log. It will show the payment and uncleared.
