App types (merchant vs platform) for building an integration

I am building a PP integration for a web app. The initial use of the web app will be for a single PP merchant - i.e. a way for a business account to allow online sales via this app.

However, at a later point, the app will allow multiple merchants to sell online. Does this mean I should use a platform app type? or would I still be able to use Merchant type? Also, if I develop the integration using a merchant token, is there a different set of APIs applicable for a platform token? i.e. can i develop using a merchant token and switch to a platform token without needing to change the integration at all?
