Credit card payment clearance time to someone

Hi, I’m going to buy something which I need to travel over 3 hours to collect and I’m paying someone for the item through PayPal on a credit card. How long will the payment take to clear? As the item in costing a few thousand I obviously don’t want to pay before going down and seeing the item but also don’t want to travel down and pay when I’m happy with it but then have to wait days for payment to clear to the person for me to be able to take the item home? Any help would be great thanks

Paypal payments for sales normally take up to 2 hours, doesn't matter how they are funded as Paypal always credit the person the funds and then Paypal take the wait for the funds to transfer from that funding source to reimburse them.

However if your seller is 'new' the funds may well be 'pending' in their Paypal account for up to 21 days, that should have no bearing on the buyer however as the seller is expected to send the item anyway.

Having said that you are collecting the item so you will have 0 Paypal buyer protection as they don't cover goods that are collected.

Also if the seller does have the new seller hold applied then as he won't be able to supply a tracking number he would have to wait the full 21 days before funds are released.

You need to really read up on Paypal buyer protection etc so you can risk assess your transactions.
