I've received a payment for £70 and sender tells me they've sent it through 'friends and family' but I've still be charged a fee. Any ideas why?

They probably did not send it via friends/family if you were charged a fee.
It happens. Hit the "Login to Ask the community" button to create a question for the PayPal community.
