I'm purchasing an item from someone and paying via PayPal. Am I the recipient or is the seller the recipient. Wasn't sure if they mean recipient of the item or recipient of the funds????

I was trying to send money to a person that I purchased something from. When I enter their email address, it then notes my shipping address below, then a box below that said enter recipients Name, then Recipients Country. After asking a friend about this, he tried and didn't get the 2 "Recipients Boxes" questions. I tried it about 4 times, then the Recipients questions were suddenly not there. So I completed what I needed. Not sure if it will happen again in future transactions so, I'm still not sure whether me as a buyer or the seller is the recipient, since I'm getting the item and the seller is getting money from PayPal.

I'm glad to hear that you were able to get past that and get your payment made!
I haven't encountered those boxes before. Was it directly on PayPal after clicking to send money, or was it in a seller's checkout on their website? If it happens again, please try to get some screenshots, but make sure to remove any personal information like addresses, phone numbers, names, etc..

This was on the PayPal website. As noted, my friend logged in and tried it and it didn't come up for him either. It came up for me several times but eventually it went away and I noted at that point, it showed a name connected with the sellers email address whereas the first several times it did not display their name. Thus, i'm assuming it was looking for me to input the sellers name.

Hi @COdoug,
Hmmm, I'm wondering if the first few times, there was a misspelling in the email address. If there was no account associated with the email address, the system may have requested information for the recipient of the payment. If there was a misspelling those first few times that was subsequently corrected, that would be why the later attempt worked out.
If you do run into that again, check the spelling of the email address to see if there are any typos.
