Using PayPal to buy ticket at Alternative Airlines

Have frequently used PayPal to pay online for airplane tickets at Alternative Airlines:

https://www.alternativeairlines.com/

But today, for the first time ever, I got a message saying:

"Sorry, but there has been a problem with processing your payment. Please check with your card provider and ask them to authorise transactions with Alternative Airlines and then try again."

Anyone know what the problem might be? I have plenty of money in the PayPal account, and have never had this sort of message before from any company.

Thanks for providing all those details. That error typically means the transaction was blocked by your card issuer.
