Paypal Balance

Does a PayPal Balance automatically go to credit future purchases, or do I have to do something to use the balance?  It seems like my PayPal balance neber goes down.

Click on the profile tab (icon next to log out) > Click on payments third option along on the thick blue band top of page > second down click on update next to your preferred way to pay and put a dot in the balance option.

HOWEVER that is not always available in every country so if you don't say what country you are in then you don't always get the best advice.

When the balance runs out, do I have to reset how I'm going to pay for an item, or will it revert automatically?

if there no balance paypal would show at checkout the options of a funding source and you would select one BUT best to just go and re-set it once your balance is empty.
