Hi! I need some help. I have positive PayPal balance and in my definitions I have that I prefer to use it. But I am trying to checkout a purchase in a website and when I log in into PayPal account, it asks me to add a new bank account or a credit card. Why can’t I use my balance?

You can use funds in your paypal balance 'as long as' they are in the correct currency and not pending.

BUT for some transactions ie digital / virtual or higher risk AND at 'some point' anyway Paypal will ask you to add a card to act as a back up funding source and to verify your Paypal account.

But that doesn’t mean that I have to use the credit card right?

No you don't always have to use it BUT again for some virtual transactions or high risk transactions paypal will only let you pay that way.
