Merchant ability to charge after card replaced?

So I gave a merchant my card info over the phone to book a party and they didn't charge me for the service I ordered that day. I then needed to cancel a few days later and they said they couldn't cancel. I looked at my PP balance and realized they never charged me for the service anyways, so I just ordered a new card. I'm wondering if the merchant can still charge my PP account even though the card number they have is now cancelled and I have a new one on the way. Because I do not want the service I had to cancel for good reason.
