Cancelled an order over a week ago, order still pending

I made an pre-order for a PS4 game on a website a while ago, but cancelled it back on September 30th as I found it cheaper elsewhere. Despite cancelling the order, I noticed the payment was still listed as pending in my paypal activity.
I contacted the seller on Monday (5th October) to inform them of this as it was still pending. They were rather brief with their responses, they claimed they have "now cancelled it", but the payment was still pending after the fact. I replied back telling them this, and they said to wait 3-5 working days for the "funds to be released back into my bank account".
That's already passed, it's technically already been 7-8 working days in fact since I cancelled the order. I have contacted paypal, but they just told me to contact the merchant. I've done so again and am currently awaiting a response, but I'm a little concerned about this now.
I've never had this issue before on other sites. Usually when something is cancelled, it is gone from my paypal's pending activity immediately, or at most takes a day.
Anyone have any advice?

I just had the same issue with a pre order I placed and had to cancel. Today, I recieved the email from GAME saying that the pre order that I had placed will have the money taken out soon, and after seeing that I noticed that the pre order I cancelled that was still pending on PayPal was gone. I hope this gives you some semblance of information.
