As the title suggests, i called paypal credit customer care a few hours ago and requested to enroll in one of the payment plans they may have for people going through financial hardship.
My reasons?
- I am starting grad school this month. This school is considered an extremely prestigious institution not only in the United States but all around the world. I paid $30K worth of tuition out of my pocket. Because of this i have an account balance of $3,500 and have been making the minimum payments to maintain my account in good standing.
- I also support my parents back home, and my mom's side of the family as well. So i am basically supporting the living and daily expenses of 8 people not including myself.
I called Paypal Credit asking for help cause i want to focus on my studies for the next year and a half and it would be great if they could help me with these payment plans. the amount of stress i had was significant and the added stress of going to a super competitive school and surviving isn't going to help it.
The customer service guy came back saying that they cannot help me with anything "because my account is in good standing". They literally told me that the only way i can avail these plans is if i "miss a payment or two". Which honestly, why would i even let it happen? That affects my credit score significantly and is the sole reason behind making those minimum payments.
I thought being a good responsible customer had its perks but today i found out that is nothing but a myth.
Hope this helps people who are in similar situations and i hope you are not suffering from the amount of stress i am.
Take Care!

Yeah, me too. I'm starting my third semester of Grad School as well, with a balance of just under $3k. There should be something for this! There was a change in how PayPal credit works now that it's been put under the card of Synchrony Bank, and honestly, it's been awful. They're now considering PPC transfers to a friend as "cash loans" and charging interest on them accordingly.
What am I supposed to do? As a Research Assistant I bring home $1414/mo, minus $750 for rent, ~$200 for electricity + internet, leaving me $464 to eat and get gas on.
