When will the ZAR be added to Paypal currency, as we are unable to make it an available payment option on our e-commerce site.

Excellent question. I too have the option to use PayPal on my site but am currently unable to due to PayPal not accepting ZAR. The quickest way for PayPal to take off in South Africa is to enable ZAR. I know theres tons of other ecommerce shops just dying to get this on the go. Come on PayPal!! At least give us an update or some thing!

This is a terrible flaw, not only are we stiffed by the PayPal provider in South Africa being forced on us (Non of the other major banks are linkable)  we cant do bussiness in our own country with our own Currency!

Please hear the plea of the few o mighty PayPal.

We might be in Deapest Darkest Africa, - but we dont ride around on Lions and boy, if it wasnt for Columbus trying to avoid us he wouldnt have found the USA. Come on! Most of the Gold in for Nox came from our mines.

Please include ZAR the South African Rand and let the no-bodies in SA suffer a little less.

Hear, hear. It would be nice to get a response so that we know what is happening either way.

PLEASE ADD THE ZAR. While you are about it micropayment fees ZAR to ZAR would be heck of a nice too.

The reason why this is not supported is supposedly something to do with South African exchange controls, although I personally think it's totally ridicilous that Paypal has already been in South Africa for a year and this problem still exists.

The bank that partenered with Paypal issued this fairly comprehensive FAQ with regards to the Paypal service in South Africa:

https://www.fnb.co.za/downloads/PayPal_FAQs.pdf

"4. Why can I only Top Up with US dollars? PayPal offers the ability to send funds and make payments in many currencies.  At this stage South African Rand (ZAR) is not a PayPal currency so as an interim solution the FNB ‘Top Up’ service with PayPal will only facilitate the conversion of the funds from South African rand into US dollars.  The US Dollars in your PayPal account can used to make purchases in any PayPal currency, with PayPal merchants worldwide."

Of course this doesn't really address the problem but one day, maybe one day, someone from Paypal or the bank will tell us the real story behind the story. It's a real joke.

With Zar, Paypal is very limited for me. I do markets and fairs, and don't want the expense of a credit card facility. If Paypal were Zar enabled, customers could pay using their smartphones.
