I've had problems using Pay Pal Credit with other merchants. As was the case with Bill Me Later, with whom I NEVER had a problem, I purchased an item that was over $99 which would qualify for the six month pay later option, actually the item was $129 dollars. Well over the limit. My item went to Pay Pal Credit alright, but not the six month option. When I called I was told that the situation would be rectified. It wasn't. So I wrote an e-mail and received an autoreply thanking me for writing. I never heard back how the situation resovled, so I called customer service. He said it wasn't resolved in my favor because the mercant "Musician's Friend" had no six month promotion. Well, all it has to be is over $99 to qualify with Pay Pal Credit, The merchant has no role in that. Pay Pal and Pay Pal Credit are ways to pay on the merchant site, along with Visa. So having siad this, customer service then said I had to log into my Pay Pal account first. That's why I didn't qualify. But when I log into Pay Pal, my default option always went to Pay Pal Credit "get 6 months to pay" (until I changed that option two weeks ago, that is). I realized I wasn't getting anywhere, so I just figured I got taken advantage of. Never had that experience with Bill Me Later -- ever. I had some promotional items on my account and when pay off time came, I paid them off. When I called customer service to ask about an amount that was still an outstanding balance that wasn't listed in the promotional purchase category, I called again to find out where that charge came from. Customer service was friendly, but the same responses were given as before - didn't qualify, etc. etc. I did say I was going to contact the Better Business Bureau I was so frustrated, the operator said she'd removed a late charge for me for a non-promotioal item (missed the payment by one day, My fault completely). I said I'd appreciated that and she was very polite and friendly, but I was still irriated at the bait and switch. She did say that my default payment was no longer Pay Pal Credit. I told her I'd changed that to my Visa card, because I was disgusted with being hoodwinked on a six month promotional purchase. She said I could write to customer service and I told her I'd done that once and it didn't get me anywhere. I thanked her for the suggestion just the same.
She was one of the better customer service people I've had. She wasn't condescending or irritable. But I still didn't enjoy the six month promotion and it sours me about recommending Pay Pal Credit service to anyone. Their newly designed webpage is awful. It takes way more steps to naviagte around just to look at a detailed statement. Bill Me Later's was more accesible all the way around. It didn't need to have the silly icons.
