Policy update 1.10 - PayPal can spam me

In the new policy update it says I have to consent to receive surveys and marketing. I don't see any way to opt out of it. That is ridiculous! I don't have the time or money for spam. 1.10 Calls to You; Mobile Telephone Numbers. You consent to receive autodialed or prerecorded calls and text messages from PayPal at any telephone number that you have provided us or that we have otherwise obtained. We may place such calls or texts to (i) notify you regarding your account; (ii) troubleshoot problems with your account (iii) resolve a dispute; (iv) collect a debt; (v) poll your opinions through surveys or questionnaires, (vii) contact you with offers and promotions; or (viii) as otherwise necessary to service your account or enforce this User Agreement, our policies, applicable law, or any other agreement we may have with you. The ways in which you provide us a telephone number include, but are not limited to, providing a telephone number at Account opening, adding a telephone number to your Account at a later time, providing it to one of our employees, or by contacting us from that phone number. If a telephone number provided to us is a mobile telephone number, you consent to receive SMS or text messages at that number. We won’t share your phone number with third parties for their purposes without your consent, but may share your phone numbers with our Affiliates or with our service providers, such as billing or collections companies, who we have contracted with to assist us in pursuing our rights or performing our obligations under this User Agreement, our policies, applicable law, or any other agreement we may have with you. You agree these service providers may also contact you using autodialed or prerecorded calls and text messages, as authorized by us to carry out the purposes we have identified above, and not for their own purposes. Standard telephone minute and text charges may apply if we contact you.

I agree.  It appears to be attempting to use two exceptions to the DoNotCall registry and the Telemarketing Sales Rule -- enforced by both the FCC and the FTC.

1. existing business relationship -- but this only allows communication regarding the account, not promotional communications.

2. written agreement - but, this kind of shrink wrap automatic agreement won't qualify as written agreement.  It is even listed as one of the 'not sufficient' examples on their website.  (FTC I think)

So, I have placed my number on the DoNotCall registry.  If this purported 'agreement' is abused, I will report the violation to both the FTC and the FCC.

PayPal, this is bad business.  Trying to bully your customers into accepting behavior that universally **bleep** people off is a way to lose good will fast.

Maybe it is time to finally take a look at this bitcoin stuff.

Very Sincerely,

If you insist on using PayPal (and I see no way round them) then you accept the baggage that comes with the territory. I am one of the most fastidious when it comes to selling procedure yet PayPal deem me a above ordinary risk, and have a notice splashed across my home page as "Below Standard". At the same time withholding payments to me by customers. What they grandly call " Pending". Which loosely means they sit in their bank account making interest, rather than mine. PayPal are no different from any other bank in their ways, and they have the temerity to charge you for it. Time some woke up to PayPal.

Have to agree with everyone above: If this is implemented, my account will be closed at midnight on July 1st with no regrets.

Looking forward to seeing similar replies in epic numbers.

I think that this is just too much of a scumbag move on Paypal's part.  Either they allow me to opt out, or my account will be deleted!

I too will be leaving if 1.10 stands as currently published.  Hope PayPal notices the massive amounts of negative press and comments from users and revises their unacceptable policy!
