No Mobile Phone Signal for Verification Code

I live out in the country with no mobile phone signal for about five miles. Trying to log on to PP, I get a message that I must give a mobile phone number, so they can send a verification code when I make a transaction.
What are people supposed to do in this situation?
I've tried to message PP but heard nothing.

Yes, it's crazy. I used their online chat service last week and was repeatedly told that I needed to give them a mobile number. I got fed up explaining myself. At one point, someone said, so if you don't use a mobile, how are we supposed to get in touch with you if we need to. Use my landline number or send me an email. I was also told that I could give the mobile number of a friend, so they would get my message and pass it on. No..that won't be happening. I thought this was about security.

I'm also going through this conversation with PP help.
When I was looking for a new mobile provider I got hold of a map for not-spots and it covers about a third of the UK!
As there is a workaround that banks are using, why not use that PP?
I find the response from PP disappointing as it isn't our fault we live in an area with poor/no mobile signal.

I had the same problem and kept getting the standard "get a mobile phone" response from PayPal. When I challenged this earlier today (and used the word "Discrimination") I got a very helpful response which said that, if you have no mobile phone or poor reception PayPal will happily send an automated message with the one time use code to your landline. All you have to do is select the "HAVE US CONTACT YOU" option which should appear on the authentication screen. As I only got this info today I haven't had the opportunity to try it however it looks like there is hope for us out there.

We also live in a "not spot", with no mobile reception (as do around 10% of the UK population!). I've been trying to find a workaround to still be able to use PayPal for some time, with no luck.
We switched banks because our old bank had the same blinkered view, refusing to accept that it's not possible to get a text message in some areas. My phone is an 18 month old iPhone, so not by any stretch of the imagination cheap, yet it apparently cannot receive texts over WiFi (I have tried, and looked into this, despite running iOS 14 the option just isn't there in the settings menu). Also, my phone is usually turned off (no point in having a phone on when it can't be used!). I'm not going to spend several hundred pounds replacing an 18 month old iPhone, just to be able to continue use PayPal, especially given the very limited use a phone is when you can't get a signal.
Our (new) bank has a good workaround for this secure authentication problem, so if PayPal could adopt something, perhaps using a landline message (which is what some other organisations now seems to do) then that would be very helpful.
