Unable to close my account for more than a year. Please advise!!

I moved UK > USA in Feb 2019 and I've been trying to close my British account ever since so that I can open up a new American account (because apparently you can't have 2 accounts on the same email and I'm not going to set up a separate email just for PayPal.....!).

 

My balance is £0.00 but every time I click 'close my account' it tells me 'There's a pending transaction that needs to be completed first.' I don't know what this transaction is and I've been seeing the same message since Feb 2019 so it's been pending for an awfully long time. I tried contacting PayPal support to manually FORCE my account to close but they have been no help so far. Also the only reason I'm trying to do it this way is because PayPal support told me this was the only way to change my account's country from UK to US, but they're unable to do so because of a pending transaction that I can't even see. I've tried removing my bank accounts in order to cancel whatever this transaction is but the website times out to a blank white page whenever I try to remove an account.

 

Anyone else had any success leaving PayPal? My current experience is making me strongly reconsider whether or not I should come back for an American account.....

Hi @peanutismint Thank you for communicating with us. Before you close your account please be sure there’s no money in your PayPal balance and that your financial details have been removed. If there is a balance, withdraw the money to your bank account. Once your balance is zero, remove your bank and card details. You may not close your PayPal account if: There are outstanding payments There are outstanding disputes, claims or chargebacks There is a limitation on your account Your account balance is below zero. You can also check if you have any existing billing agreement linked to your Paypal account that needs to be removed. You may close your PayPal account by going to the website on a browser but not via the PayPal app. To close your PayPal account: Go to Profile Icon Settings. In the 'Account options' section, click Close your account and follow the steps. We may ask you to confirm ownership of the account before it can be closed. Note: It’s not possible to reopen an account once it has been closed but you can sign up for a new account instead. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response, unfortunately none of that helped as it was all things I already knew about/had already tried and yet still didn't work. Fortunately I've also since been in touch with PayPal via Twitter who have said they will force close the account for me, although that was a few days ago now and I am still awaiting an email confirmation that this has taken place, so I guess we'll see if/when that ever comes along. I wouldn't have thought it'd be this hard to leave an online service, especially these days with all coporations terrified of GDPR etc....
