I don't have a smartphone but Paypal keeps demanding to text me to log in

Is it now Paypal policy to demand that its users have a mobile phone that can receive text messages? Attempting to log in I keep getting blocked by a page requiring me to enter a mobile number to text a confirmation code. I have no way of doing this and so far Paypal support has been no help. They had me try password changes several times but the requirement for a mobile number keeps popping up. Anyone know of a way around this?

Replying to my own topic, I finally found the "Call me with a code" option and that worked. Why couldn't the person on the support chat tell me about that? In any event I can log in now.
