Help with changing my name on Paypal

I made my Paypal account many years ago and didn't really need to use it until now. The problem is, I used my nickname for my account instead of my full first name. I looked at the name change options and there's this:

However, when I click this it requires me to upload a Marriage Certificate, Certificate of Divorce, or Deed Poll. I have a valid ID, but none of these 3 documents. Did Paypal mistakingly require the same documents as in the "Change your legal name" option? Is there any other way to correct my name if I don't have these documents?

Sadly not sure why they say that as if you have a nickname on an account you can't change it.

The idea is that the name on your account has to match the legal document that you provide OR that proves you have legally changed your name.

The only other time that they change it is for a very minor typo ie 1-2 digits.

@kernowlass Just wondering, is a passport / driver's license not considered as a valid legal document? Would it not be enough to just send them images of these? Why does the official document need to be something like a marriage certificate?

They are considered valid BUT they won't prove that the name on your paypal account is your real name will they.

@kernowlass Why wouldn't they? My real name is written on those documents. And if that's the reasoning, then how exactly does a marriage certificate differ from a passport?

Anyway, is the only possible solution to create a new Paypal account with a different email? Or am I allowed to just close my current account then make a new one?
