I can't add my email to paypal

I can't add my email to paypal, it says it's associated with another account, but I only have one paypal as far as I know - here's the error message I get: We're sorry, that email address isn't available because it's already linked to another PayPal account. Try linking another email address or ask your sender to send the money to a different email address that belongs to you. - any help would be appreciated -

The error message which is shown by our systems while adding the email address is verified, it might have been added by your friends or family members.
