Hi I have received an email saying that my paypal account may have been accessed by a third party and its asking me enter my paypal details in again. The email looks like it's from paypal but I'm unsure. It says if I have not responded to there email within 24-48 hrs they treat my account as fraudulent and close it down It has a ref number PP-845-371-835 shall I act on this or not?

Hi Cindyoliver27,

Welcome to the Community Forum! Sorry to hear about this suspicious email.

It sounds like you've received a phishing or spoof email. While we will email you if we have placed a limitation on your account for any reason, we'll never ask you to click on any links within the email itself to resolve any steps.

We will also not close your account if you don't respond to an email we send. I'd advise forwarding this email or any others you are suspicious about to spoof@paypal.co.uk so we can review this. My colleagues will usually respond to you within 24-72 hours confirming whether or not the email is genuine.

As long as you have not clicked on any links within the email and provided any details, your account is not compromised, as the email is not sent by PayPal. However, if you have any concerns, I'd advise changing your account's password and security questions as soon as possible.

Let me know if you have any further questions,

Sophie
