I am a webmaster helping a client set up PayPay for use on their website. What is the best way to allow me to acess their account to set up Buttons, customize their PayPal page, etc, while keeping their info (bank account and etc) private (from me)? Is that possible?

One method:

PayPal's Multi-User Access:

Providing you have a Business Account, you can grant various account access privileges to another person. For example you may have a Business Partner or Assistant who only needs limited access to your Account.

To setup the access privileges:

Login to your PayPal Account.
Select "Profile".
Under "Account Information".
Select "Manage Users".
Select "Add User".
Complete the Form.
Save.

When you setup the account for them, you enter their full name, the ID you want them to use and the password you want them to use. Next, assign the privileges and save. You can then logout and test the login ID and password yourself. Note, login ID is not an email address, it just a unique user name you make up The unique user name is used to log in along with the password you assigned.

The privileges listed below are the typical business operations that can be performed on PayPal.

Hi skier,

Thanks for that advice. On the list of privileges you included, I DON'T see: create buttons; get botton code for inclusion on website; set up the page for visitors; set up a 'sandbox' to test things.

Are those automatic privileges, and can my client simply de-select all of the privileges you listed? Would that accomplish what I want?

You will just have to play with privileges to see what works for your project.

Note, if you plan to do testing in the Sandbox with "hosted" item buttons, the "hosted" buttons you create in the Sandbox stay in the Sandbox.   They cannot be used with a live site.   You would have create all new buttons with the live account.

Also, note, if you're client does not need "hosted" buttons, you can manually create anything you want without access to the clients account, all you need is their email address or Merchant Referral ID for the "business" variable value.   This how we do it and it really simplifies everything.

Thanks again. "...play with privileges to see what works for your project..." does ultimately seem to be the answer to questions like this, I s'pose...

As I've mentioned, they also want help setting up the options for visitors and customizing the page where visitors pay, so just manually creating all of the html and using their ID will not quite be enough.
