paypal wont accept good credit card

a couple weeks ago we used our paypal account to pay the deposit on a vacation rental. today we wish to pay the balance(well within our payment limit) but paypal wont accept the card and wants our bank account linked. we signed up with paypal specifically so we could use this card. what gives?they give us no reason for denial and have confirmed that the card is good.customer service is useless.

why wont you take my credit card? has large balance and not expired

You can't use the credit card, because you have reached you lifetime spending limit with paypal.

Once you add you bank account and it becomes verified, the spending limit will  be lifted. 

You will then be able to use your credit card.

I used this account the other day and now it tells me that my card won't work what the problem
