Partially damaged shipment and refund

I've recently been dragged through a Resolution case where a shipment I sent arrived partially damaged (one of the 2 pieces ruined).
The buyer has been very poor at communication despite me trying to resolve the situation via email and Facebook Messenger (how the buyer arranged the original purchase).
I agreed the item was damaged and offered to partially refund the buyer but now PayPal informs me the buyer has arranged to send something back (from the USA, back to the UK) and once it arrives a full refund will be issued.
I don't feel I should have to refund the entire amount and am worried PayPal will automatically do so.
Am I being paranoid? I feel like the entire process is out of my hands and my account funds are being held for no reason.

Paypal don't deal in part refunds (that is for you to sort with the buyer in the dispute phase 'if' you can), once the dispute has been escalated to a claim and Paypal find in the buyers favour the 'only' option available is for them to return everything back to you for a full refund.
Then you can re-sell the undamaged stock.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.
