Serious Scam

Over six months ago I bought tickets for an event from an individual, the event was last week and because of the waiting period the seller who was selling on Facebook scammed me of over £1,000 , the individual asked me to paypal via 'friends and family' which is the gift option apparently

Anyway, I phone Paypal who states nothing can be done, this seems a nice little way for scammers to steal your money and to also remain anonymous .

I've lost a substantial amount of money and the representative on the phone couldn't care less, won't open a dispute and says the police won't get involved as its a civil matter, I have read a few sellers and buyers posts about how Paypal protect the scammers and ignore anything from Police when

documents are sent, ridiculous.

Sorry but you scammed yourself unfortunately....

A friends / family (or gift payment) is intended as a transfer of funds from family or friends to one another. For this reason, there is no processing fee when payment is made with bank or PayPal balance.

However as it is a “gift” payment, there is also no Buyer protection as no goods or services should have been exchanged.

That is why you can't open a paypal dispute.

If he was not a close mate or family member you should never use that option as it enables the seller to evade his paypal fees and negates your buyer protection at the same time.

You also risk having your account limited for using this option when you are purchasing goods.
Your only hope is if you funded your paypal payment via a credit card then contact your card issuer and see if they will help you. However your c.c. company or the police may not help as by using the friends / family option you were sending a 'gift' of money to someone.

Kudos / Solution appreciated.
