If you'l log into your account, look on the top right of the page , click on security link. at the bottom of the page you'll see another link "contact us" when you click on this it opens to another page with a security number and the phone number.  Just have the security number ready when you call.  I hope this helps.

hello

now that i remember, that is what i did.

i always go to the bottom and hit contact. you get three options, one of which being call. they send the security number. but when i clicked "call" i got sent to a page with the error message. i will try again.

The email you got was almost certainly a phishing email. If you entered any credit card information, you need to cancel those credit cards immediately as they have just been stolen. Forward any emails like that to spoof(at)paypal(dot)com, and since you've already fallen for this one, you'll need to change your Paypal password as well. If I were you I'd also get a credit report to see how far the identity theft has gone.

Be careful when entering personal information online! And never, EVER enter personal information in response to an email, no matter who they claim to be emailing from, and never enter personal information into a site you get to from clicking a link in an email -- always open a new tab and go to the Paypal site directly.
