I received an email stating I have changed my email address. I have not done so. The statement goes on to tell me to open the attachment and complete all my personal information that was given to Pay Pal when I opened the account.

Is this a scam as I have not changed it to the name given in the email. No one has accesss to my Pay Pal account except for me.

Hi Sir_William, and welcome to the forums!

If the email is asking you to open an attachment, it's not from PayPal. It's a pretty good bet that it's a phishing email designed to scare you into panicking and supplying information to them that they can use to gain access to other personal and financial information. It sounds like you took a moment to step back and evaluate first, which is good.

Definitely do not supply any information. Run a virus scan to make sure that opening the attachment didn't also download any kind of malware. You can forward the email to spoof@paypal.com, and delete it from your mailbox.

There is a really simple way to tell whether paypal wants more information from you, or if its a scam.

Log in through PAYPAL.COM, NEVER follow links through email. EVER.

This is a great way to give scammers everything they need to take all your hard earned $$$$. They are getting better and better at impersonating paypal, even down to using your real name, having links that take you to places that look exactly like paypal, etc......

Just log in to paypal through their website. www.paypal.com

If paypal truly sent you an email about them needing more info, there will also be a request/notice for this info in your account!
