33 dollars in fees !!

I just sold something on ebay for 270 dollars and have to pay a total of 33 dollars in various fees (ebay and paypal combined)

This is outrageous. I miss the days where you had a choice of payment method when using ebay. Do you guys think I'm overreacting  ???  I understand there is more regulation and a  streamlined buyer protection program in place but still.....

I doubt if the ebay requirement to use paypal would hold up in any kind of court action, and I think that is why it hasn't been enforced - or at least we haven't seen it being enforced.

eBay does not require sellers to use PayPal... the eBay Accepted Payments Policy lists several other payment services which can be used instead of PayPal. Here's the link to the eBay Accepted Payments Policy...

When I originally listed my product I tried to specify that I accepted money orders. I didn't even want to go through paypal because I had heard they raised their rates. Ebay would NOT let me post my product (it was a cell phone) unless I took out the money order info and used paypal. I was BLOCKED. I even tired to put the money order info in the product description. That didn't work. I have a perfect feedback rating and have been an Ebay member for years.

For most eBay categories, sellers are not permitted to list money orders as an accepted payment method. The link I provided in my previous post...

eBay Accepted Payments Policy...

explains exactly which payment methods are permitted on eBay.

I understand that. Thanks for the link . I was just referencing the old ways of conducting business on ebay. Less regulated true... however there were also WAY less fees.

The lawsuit filed by several eBay users alleging anti-competitive activity by eBay and PayPal was dismissed when the judge granted eBay's motion for summary judgment.

The motion for summary judgment was granted... the motion for class certification was denied as moot.

I think all ebay members should freeze their selling and buying for one week on ebay until they get the hint and lower their rates. I just sold a Playstation 3 and between FEEbay and Paypal I lost 40 dollars, not to mention I still have to ship the thing. Paypal is like a monopoly in a way.
