Online policy says non profits will be charge 2.2% plus $.30 per transation.  On a $20 ticket sold online that comes to

$.74.  But our non profit was charged $.88.  Please explain.

Hi ngmaca1,

Welcome! It looks like you were charged the standard rate of 2.9% + $.30.

In order to receive any rate reductions PayPal would need to confirm your nonprofit status.

Here's how:

You can begin the approval process by submitting some basic information to compliance@paypal.com.

This includes the name of your organization, your contact information, and the address of your website if you have one.

We’d like to see a brief description of your business or a copy of your mission statement, too.
You may also be asked to:

  • Provide proof of your tax-exempt status or registration from a regulatory body.
  • Send us a copy of a bank statement or a voided check with the name of your organization on it.
  • Provide us with additional information or documentation if we need it, based on the regulatory requirements for your country. We’ll contact you to let you know exactly what we need.

Donations not associated with a charity or nonprofit organization don’t need to meet these requirements, but all donations are subject to review. Donations must also follow our Acceptable Use Policies.

We have submitted all the paperwork (tax exempt status, bank statement, description of the organization) and been approved as a non profit but we are still being charged a fee of 2.9%.  What else do we need to do to be charged the 2.2% rate?  Is there someone I can contact to look specifically at our account?
