Scammed. "Unauthorized Claim" - Virtual Sales. Any Advice/Tips? Help Please! Dispute Still Underway.

I have an unfortunate story, but I would like to ask for any information that anyone can give to help aid in my attempt to win the criminally filed dispute/unauthorized claim that these people filed against me.

I was scammed, yesterday.

The buyer of my WoW account sent the money, and I traded over the account completely to him. I changed the E-mail, the password, and everything. I was so excited to have just sold the account, no longer would I have to play WoW and I just got paid!

Unfortunately, an hour later, I check my account, and BAM! Paypal hits me with a big "HELD" next to that $250.00 I just earned.

It's truly criminal to steal back money that one has already paid. What if all of these Paypal execs just got all of the small fees that everyone paid them STOLEN BACK because someone knows how to utilize a proxy server, keylogger, or just simple tactics to TRICK Paypal reviewers into thinking the payment was "Unauthorized."

P.S. On top of that, I sold Virtual Gold for $340.00, to a DIFFERENT BUYER. SAME THING HAPPENED. "Unauthorized" EVERYONE KNOWS HOW TO SCAM AND GET THROUGH THE LOOPS PAYPAL. HELP PLEASE!!!!

P.S.S. The scammers trick you by sending the payment as a GIFT. One sees the money and doesn't think twice about payment form. Please HELP. I'VE READ TOO MANY HORROR STORIES ABOUT LOSING MONEY TO E-SCAMMERS!!!!!

Does anyone agree?

I do not actually believe you do such a thorow check with the buyer. The simple reason is that you refund the buyer (reverse charge) immediately without open a dialog with the buyer AND seller. So, it only after a "while" you will discover if a buyer is acting fraudulently. Consequently, PayPal has put their sellers at risk.

This is not fair busines.

Correction:  Sellers put themselves at risk...it really is as simple as that.

Are you employed by PayPal? So you think it is fair business to have a long-winded user-agreement which on its surface offers "seller protection when using verifyed buyers" but actually underneath is geared towards never giving any protection?

The simple truth is that PayPal lets any "buyer" retract their purchase without any questions asked if they ask  for a reversal through their credit card company. There is no dispute possible. there is no investigation done. there is no effort or protection on PayPal side. All the nice words such as these exists on their website:

"Help keep payments secure with our fraud detection and prevention"

"Learn about our build-in antifraud features and additional tools to securely accept online payments."

You can read more about ChargeBacks on https://www.paypal.com/se/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/Marketing/securitycenter/sell/ChargebackGuide1-outs...

What to expect:

  • If a buyer files a chargeback against you for a credit card transaction through PayPal, we'll email you as soon as we're contacted by the credit card company.
  • The funds in question will be held temporarily, as we work with you to resolve the chargeback with the buyer's credit card company.
  • If you dispute the chargeback, our specially trained chargeback team will help you build a powerful case.
  • The resolution process can take 75-100 days, depending on the credit card company.
  • If the credit card company decides in your favor, PayPal will immediately transfer the funds back to you.

The problem is that the money is not put on hold, nor is it possible to reply to the emails from PayPal. You can try to phone or email, but usually you get nowhere. The problem here is that the seller HAS followed all the PayPal rules, but get no help or protection from PayPal.

Dont work for Paypal

Dont use Paypal

I have read the user agreement many many times

4.4 Risk of Reversals, Chargebacks and Claims.

-Risks- it is what you take when you sell on Ebay with Paypal, again simple.

readuseragreeme: You actually put this on another of yoru posts:

The user agreement states that if someone files a chargeback against you Paypal will fight on your behalf (charge you $20 if you loose)

So, I never got that offer from PayPayl! and I bet most others here who are complaining about non-service from PayPal too.,

its not an offer it is automatic but paypal doesnt make the final say.  Paypal is like Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mocking Bird, except not as noble, only doomed to loose.

Thank You for posting the obvious.....feel better?

I found out about the User Agreement Clause after the fact, like 99% of sellers who have been scammed by people buying digital objects.

So you did not read the user agreement when you signed up for your account?!?!  WHY NOT....you clicked agree and continue, your antics baffle me.  Your stupidity....makes me feel better

You're half right...The correct answer is to not sell ANYTHING through Paypal.  The bottom line is that Paypal enables fraud.  As a seller, if you becaome a target of fraud, you will lose and Paypal will not protect or support you.  Advisors will opine on policy, terms, "sellers protections", etc.  However, the criminal community has figured this out and Paypal knows it.  Paypal enables this activity by allowing it to continue.  Paypal **bleep**.

I remember a time when eBay allowed items to be paid with cash and cheques.  This would have solved all of my problems but I guess paypal can't make money that way so ebay needed to make a monopoly on the payment process.

I find it interesting that eBay Australia allows for bank deposit, cheques and money orders, escrow, and credit cards because Australian Competition & Consumer Commission forced them to.

Instead here in the Land of the Free we get to deal with Paypal Buyers who steal a neighbors WIFI or use a Proxy, buy a bunch of Digital Goods on eBay, and then claim they did not authorize the purchases.  I would ALWAYS take money orders or cheques before Paypal.
