I have an open dispute with paypal for an item that I purchased that was not as described. I just received an email from the protection services at paypal which reads..

In order to continue with the investigation of your claim, here’s what we
need you to do:

1. Destroy and discard the item in question – this is a necessary step
because it may actually be illegal to ship this item back to us.

2. Provide PayPal with documentation confirming that the item was destroyed
and discarded. Simply sign and date the document provided below, and fax it
to (402) 537-5760 (please note this is a United States phone number, if you
are faxing from outside the United States, you will generally need to dial
00 1 before the number).

3. We need to receive your fax within 3 calendar days from the date of this
message or your claim will be canceled.

Please note that PayPal is unable to reimburse you for any costs or fees
incurred in obtaining or providing the requested documents. Also, the
document may be supplied to the seller if necessary.

... I'm confused on what exactly I'm supossed to do? Am I going to be refunded? Please help!

Welcome to the boards!

PayPal is asking you to destroy the item in question - break it up, trash it,  burn it, throw it away, whatever works for you, as long as the item is no longer usable.  If this was a counterfeit item, you could optionally turn it over to your local police department (if they'll take it).

The email you received would have also included a form to fill out.  Once you have destroyed the item, fill out the form (notarize it if instructed) and fax it back to PayPal.  Don't forget, you're only provided so many days to send the documents!

Once they receive the documents, they review them, and if everything is in order, a refund is issued.

Thanks!

Adrian
