Unauthorized transaction, unverified account, illegal owner

My daughter who is 15 opened an account and spent $500 with my debit card. I cannot believe PayPal would accept no responsibility although they did not take any step to verify the ID of the owner, the validity of the debit card ID and the one of the bank account. Please any help would be appreciated. Thank you,

Well to open a paypal account she must have lied about her DOB.

PayPal asks for a birth date when you register so whilst you can make a PayPal account with false information the account would be subject to sending and receiving limits.

When she reached those limits she would be unable to verify the account and so it would be locked for further use.

Not sure Paypal is responsible for the behaviour of your daughter.

However as you let her have access to your card and the transaction was done by a member of your family then all I can suggest is that you contact your card issuer and see if they will chargeback for you.

I totally agree with your assessment that PayPal is not responsible for my daughter’s behavior but could have been anybody and the result would have been the same. Any organization should take a minimum effort to verify the information provided. It is easy to initiate a couple of verification, believe me. That is a faulty procedure.

to link a bank account, she would need her paypal name matches exactly as the name of your  bank account .

so if her name is not on that bank account, she could be opening a paypal account under your name

how did she get hold of your debit card number?

Name only has to match for a BANK ACCOUNT.

With a debit card the BILLING ADDRESS only has to match to the PHYSICAL ADDRESS.

Which is why a lot of posters have been able to add another family members card to their paypal account.

It was not and she had no access to the bank account. That is my point. Thank you for the information.

The first name is different and the bank account is under a joint name. She had no access to the bank account. It was easy for PayPal to initiate a couple of penny transactions to verify the owner ID. They have not.

Nope the name is NOT part of the address.

If you look in your wallet AND your physical address in your paypal account the NAME is not there.

That is why folks can add a debit or credit card belonging to another person to their paypal account as long as the BILLING ADDRESS is the same.

So I will mention it here............LOL
