I used on-line software (Smilebox) to send out Christmas Cards, the cost was quoted s]as £11.97 pm. £139.95 was charged to my account , with no right of cancellation, in breach of the Distance Selling Regulations. I raised a dispute with PayPal which was rejected on the grounds I did not provided requested information. i provided all the limited information, that I had. I referred PayPal to the Smilebox web-site, to confirm the Company's misleading and illegal procedures and to TrustPilot, where numerous complaints had been lodged. I have since discovered that payments to credit cards via PayPal are not protected by Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, which states that credit card providers are equally liable if things go wrong. Paypal are happy deal with merchants acting illegally and take a very cavalier attitude to complaints. I will be referring the matter to the Financial Conduct Authority and would recommend any other PayPal clients who encounter simple problems to do the same. BEWARE you waive your rights under the Consumer Credit Act if you use PayPal.
