Last year, I started an eBay business, using PayPal as my payment processor. Everything was going just fine, until someone hacked my eBay account, used my PayPal to purchase items that were similar to what I was buying/selling, and it was this whole mess. They also accessed an account on another website, and used my PayPal id to make a large order. Luckily, I was able to cancel most of the orders, ever for one on eBay that was actually shipped. This was on December 15, ,2019. I immediately called eBay to tell them what was going on, as well as PayPal. I also tried to contact the seller of the item that was being processed on eBay, but of course they never got back to me, and the item was delivered. I feel that they were also involved somehow. I looked up the address that was used for delivery, which was 600 Markley ST, Port Reading, NJ. Immediately, I saw that there were various accounts of people getting scammed with this address. Apparently the address is a known shipping scam that ships items right overseas, and there isn't an actual business/ residence at the location. I told eBay and PayPal this, and they helped me through it, however PayPal stated I would have to make a reversal through my bank to get my money back for this item. I did this and got my money back. The original PayPal agent I spoke to was super understanding, and talked to me for about 30 minutes, while she tried to track where my account was hacked from. I also live in NJ, and she stated that she saw my typical login locations, and that there were multiple logins from somewhere very close to me, but it wasn't me, and she couldn't tell me where. This was super creepy to me because whoever hacked my accounts could have been just one county or town away! Regardless, she agreed that my account was compromised. The next month went by okay. I changed all my passwords, and upgraded my security. Somehow, though, my Gmail account was still getting hacked for a good two weeks. Eventually it all stopped. And then on February 11, 2020 , I made a sale on eBay and saw that there was an issue receiving the payment. I was banned on PayPal now. Permanently. I immediately called them and got the typical answer that everyone else seems to get. "Our system flagged your account for being high risk blah blah suspended indefinitely no longer use our service" . I tried for a week to fix it. Nothing. Had to shut down my eBay business. Now, PayPal was making it seem that the fraudulent purchase and account compromise WAS me, and that I basically just made a purchase I was unhappy with, and wanted my money back. I was the criminal. Even though I had multiple eBay and PayPal agents agree that they could see I was hacked!! I gave up. Fast forward 6-7 months. I start trying again. Last month I was notified I could withdraw my funds from my account, and I did. And I also made a BBB complaint and emailed Executive Escalations. This was just over the last week or so from today. Thinking this was going to turn out good for me, I prepared to start selling again. I was wrong. They replied to my BBB complaint, still saying the same things, and that they reviewed my account and cannot overturn the decision! I am appalled, I really am. What do I do now?? I feel that this is SO unfair! I did not do anything wrong! And if I did, they won't tell me, so I'm only left to believe that it was my account compromise that lead to this, which makes it even worse! PayPal won't back you up if you ever have an issue and then they'll leave you high and dry and without a way to conduct business?! I just want my account back. It made things easy for me to sell on eBay, and now, even with the managed payments through eBay, I have to wait and be approved and I don't know when that will happen! It's so ridiculous that they leave it up to an automated system to detect these issues, and then ban you for life without one explanation! It could have been me making such a small and simple mistake that I didn't even know I was making, being I was fairly new to PayPal! So, I just wanted to share my experience with people, because I know this happens way too much, and people get the same treatment from PayPal. I truly do believe and agree with others that this is one of the reasons that eBay is separating with them. This is such poor customer service. PayPal prides themselves on their security, and then when you have an issue they blame you and shut your business down/ ban you forever?! And to not even explain why, or give you ONE single warning! I really just don't get it. I feel lost. I've never dealt with a business that didn't have a solution for a problem like this. What do I do now?! Are they just going to leave me with one reply and that's it? I've heard other situations of this happening, that turn out good! Executive Escalations gets in touch with the user, and actually calls them sometimes and Is actually helpful? I fear that my only option at this point is to use other info on an account, or to just give up. The ladder will probably end up being the solution, and it just really sucks. To my knowledge, I did no wrong. I WAS wronged, and made to feel like a criminal, and then let down by PayPal entirely! Anyone that could offer any insight would be great. If not, hopefully my experience will somehow help someone else.
