Merchant charged me after saying my subscription would not be renewed

Hi, A merchant I had a subscription with informed me via email that it would not be renewed. "This is to inform you that your subscription with Compound Media has ended. Your recurring payment has stopped because Compound Media no longer offers this specific subscription." I was planning to end my subscription so I took no action as I wanted it to end. However I was charged for the subscription and it was renewed. I opened a dispute and PayPal has denied me a refund as in their view I had previously agreed to the subscription terms. This is clearly not just as I was told by the merchant it was not an offered product and it wouldn't be renewed. What can I do to get my money back?

Did you cancel it on paypal?

Click on the profile tab (icon next to log out) > Click on payments third option along on the thick blue band top of page > "manage pre-approved payments.''
