The bug I want to report: search should respect 'synonames' (for example, Tom vs Thomas). Whether or not this is technically a bug is arguable, but I'd take the side it is. Thomas and Tom are used interchangeably and I think the search feature should reflect this.
My roommate goes by both depending on platform. I tried to send him utilities (like I have for two years) and searched Tom LASTNAME and selected the first item that came up (yup, my bad for not double checking, but I assumed that since I've been sending a Tom LASTNAME $1500 every month for the past two years and he is in my contacts that this would be the first thing to pop up...not an unreasonable assumption, actually, and one that I think many others would make). I've searched for him in the past using Thomas and he came up first, so I got complacent. Again, my bad, but from PayPal's side, this is statistically inevitable, and simply saying "we warned you..." is not enough.
My argument that this is a bug is this: statistically, people will search the wrong version of a name and make the same assumption I did (that Tom and Thomas can be used interchangeably). So either the implementation is broken or the spec is broken (if search is spec'd to not interchange synonames, that's a bug in the spec; if it IS spec'd to do this but it doesn't, that's a literal bug in the search).
Anyway, there is nowhere to report this that I can find. If I'm gonna be out about $400 I'd like to at least make this software a little better in the process. Can I do this?
