Dodgy gearbox

Hi Quick question.. Anyone know where I stand to greeting a refund regarding buying a used gearbox through PayPal? The seller told me everything was OK with the gearbox and had no problems with it but was to he sold without Warrenty. The person had a good reputation selling the gearboxes so took the plunge. I had a garage fit it and within 100 miles developed a problem and have been told there was a problem with the gearbox. I spoke to the person who sold it and said he never would have sold it if there was so. But the garage said it was a problem he wouldn't have seen as he just took the gearbox of the vehicle and sold it on. The garage are willing to write a letter explaining that there is a fault with the gearbox itself.. Just don't know if I can make a claim against it as I paid through PayPal.. Cheers

As long as the item was not 'collected' then you can always open a paypal dispute for 'item received but not as described' BUT if paypal find in your favour you may well have to return the item back to the seller first (at your own expense) trackable to prove delivery before you are refunded.

OR if you funded that Paypal payment via a credit card then you could instead try a chargeback directly via your card issuer.
