Buyer protection - Is it real?

I bought some items in Aliexpress and the seller sent me some random garbage nothing to do with what was described in the listing. That's is proven.

But now, both Aliexpress and PayPal are asking me to return the items in order to get a refund. The purchase is worth 107€. Returning the items costs more than that.

What's the purpose of this so called "buyer protection" program if in the end it is so easy to SCAM buyers this way? obviously, I will not return the items unless they provide me a free return label.

Tried to contact PayPal without success and the only option that I have in the opened case is to provide a return proof.

I though PayPal was a trustful and a safety platform. Very disappointed. It seems that nobody truly analysed the evidences and my case just went with the flow...
