I can find the paypal reader in Bluetooth - I press connect and it says 'make sure paypal 156 is turned on and in range' This happens on my iPad and another iPhone too... Tried resetting but still won't work! This is my second reader - the first didn't work at all... Thinkjng of giving up!

Hi Amyh1,

Sorry to hear you are having issues with this. I have added some tips for you to try below:

Bluetooth not picking up card reader?

  • Hold down the SYNC button until the Bluetooth light is blinking quickly

  • Make sure the reader is charged by connecting the USB cable

  • Go into your Bluetooth settings and remove the card reader from your list. Then run through steps 1-4 again.

Let us know how you get on,

Mine wont pair with my iPhone 5 either. Didn't even hold charge for long. I'm almost giving up with this machine!! Keeps on saying that it can't connect and to make sure card reader is switched on... As far as I know it's on. I've tried resetting, etc but nothing works. Had this thing for 1 month and only been able to use it for 1 sale. ( managed to pair it eventually when I first got it after 3 days of trying). PayPal here team don't seem to manage to help me stall and looks like they have given up as well!!!

Hi Susie2,

Sorry to hear this, are you still experiencing issues?

is the reader charged and the the on-screen Bluetooth icon blinking, this indicates that it's ready to connect.

Hi plaws,

Apologies for the delayed response.

Are you still experiencing issues? Is the reader showing up in the list of available Bluetooth devices on your phone?

Hi pnindi,

Sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with this.

Have you updated your phone to the latest software? If so, please try resetting your PayPal Here reader. Here is how to reset the reader:

  •  Locate the small opening next to the power button on the Chip & PIN card reader.
  •  Insert a pin into this opening and hold it until you see the green triangle flash 8 times and one asterisk sign lit up. This indicates that the device has undergone a factory reset.
  •  Once the Bluetooth light starts blinking, pair the card reader to your smartphone or iPad and open the PayPal Here app.
  •  Complete any initialisation or updates if the App prompts you to. We recommend that you complete this step using a WiFi connection and with the card reader connected to a power source.
  •  Once the card reader has been initialised and the software update has been completed (if needed), the card reader is ready to be used for payments.

Let us know how you get on,

Siobhan
