using funds

i have a balance in my paypal account and would like to use it but when i use the checkout it will not show up as one of the payment methods.

how did you do this?

I have funds in my Pay Pal,a present from a friend,  and a credit card.

I had never used Pay Pal funds before but now I want to, it doesn't seem to show any options to do so?

I know I was sent the funds in dollars, and the payment I just tried to make was in dollars...could you please exolain me what you did so I can avoid posting again about same issue?
