Sending Payment for an item not on ebay

Hi.

I am sending payment to someone I have bought £200 worth of stock over gumtree.

I basically want to know how save paypal is - if i send the £200 will it be placed on hold until I recieve the item?

Basically I dont want to pay and then not recieve the item?

no they normally do not hold a payment. however if you don't receive an item you have up to 45 days to file non receipt of item and then escalate it to a claim. if the seller can't  provide a tracking number to prove receipt of item to you then you should if everything is straightforward get a refund.

i have used paypal for 11 years as seller and buyer and never had problems, but as with everything even banks nothing is totally safe.
