A seller has asked me to pay for an item via paypal into his paypal address not through a website, do i still have protection paying this way incase i dont receive the item i have purchased

Claims can only be made for physical goods that can be posted, you have 45 days from the purchase date to open a dispute if you have any problems
Make sure you choose to pay with the "goods" option only
You can read up on buyers protection before you make your purchase
