Can't buy merch with a prepaid visa gift card

I bought a 50 dollar visa gift card to buy some merch online but wether I try to login to my pay pal account or try to login as a guess I get one of two messages; either " the card you entered cannot be used for this payment, please enter a different credit or debit card number" or some other message about not letting me use it and choose another one where it displays a drop down list. I just bought the visa and was wondering how I could actually use it to buy what I want. Thank You

you need to register the card on the site of the gift card or paypal wont acknowledge it as valid

I'm having the exact same problem too, except when I check my visa card purchase record it says that pay pal has taken $1.00 4 times for visa verification? But yet its saying that it does not recognize my visa card? I'm lost...
