I tried to make a payment through paypal of $100 to my BillMeLater account. The screen prompted me to add the date, and while I was doing that the program somehow switched the payment to paying my BillMeLater account in full. I didn't notice this till a second after I hit 'enter'. I immediately started trying to contact paypal to correct this horrible mistake. Paying the BillMeLater account in full would have nearly cleaned out my checking account and bounced checks out the wazoo. Within half an hour I was on the phone with a paypal representative who assured me the payment didn't go through. Next day, I found out it did go through. Again I spent a lot of time on the phone to paypal, BillMeLater, and my bank. Every single person told me something different, with the conclusion being that NOBODY was able to stop the payment or refund my money. Finally I persuaded my bank to put in a stop-payment on the transaction, at a charge of $20 to me. If I hadn't had this option my only other choice was to apply for a loan from the bank to replace the money taken from my account, and I WOULD have filed a complaint of theft with the FTC or whoever else oversees such commerce. I will still use paypal to pay for simple transactions on eBay, but I absolutely cannot trust them to make payments to BillMeLater. For that, I am now making payments through snail mail.
