1. I wish to send cash to a friend abroad. How do they receive the cash? Do they need a bank account, email address, or can they withdraw like Western Union?
2. I have included a paypal 'checkout' on my website for digital services rendered. How soon will the money be paid, and what's the fee?
I suspect these are basic questions, only I've no idea where to find these answers.

If your friend has a paypal account you can send them a payment but if you are sending sterling they may need to convert it to their currency before they can withdraw it to any bank account they have linked to their paypal account.
However I found it much easier when my son was travelling abroad (and of course continuously running out of cash), was to send a payment via moneygram from the post office. I just found out where the nearest moneygram collection office where he was and then sent the payment there. Had to email him the security number and he presented that plus proof of i.d. to collect the money.
The fee when you sell items is 3.4% + 20p per transaction however bear in mind there is no seller protection on paypal for digital / virtual items.

Kudos / Solution appreciated.
