How do I stop PayPal taking fraudulent payments from my credit card?

I have just had my credit card 'declined' in a restaurant. When I telephone the issuing bank they have informed me that there are 10 payments waiting to go through to PayPal. These are all for £98 each and were requested within 10 minutes on yesterdays date 9-3-12

The bank state that they have to pay the amounts before I can dispute the payments, which they will then credit back to my card before they investigate the payments.

It seems ridiculous that PayPal, whom I haven't used for about a year, could accept 10 requests for the same amount within 10 minutes without "smelling a rat".

And worse that my bank is insisting on paying 10 fraudulent transactions because "it's the banking industry's rules".

PayPal is supposed to be a secure payment method.

Lunacy.........

I suggest you check the anti-virus on your puter and make sure you haven't responded to any emails purporting to be from paypal to update your details.

then check your transaction history and phone paypal via contact us > account info > and phone the number supplied.

When you get through do not say or select any options just wait for an agent.

As for not smelling a rat for 10 transactions for the same amount why would they?

I often buy 10 books for the same amount on 10 transactions.

I've just experienced a virtually identical fraud - 10 payments for £95 exiting my account over 2 days. Paypal has suggested that it will take 10 working days to 'investigate' before I'm recompensed, which is a long time to wait for that level of cash to be refunded for an obvious case of fraud.

Totally agree with the first post in that it's difficult to understand how Paypal/the bank couldn't smell a rat give the magnitude and number of payments - particularly given the proud boasts of how safe and secure the site is.

In response to the other post, I'd be interested to know what sort of books you're buying at £98 a time!

Go CASH, buy a good safe, seems to work every time the banking industry gets infiltrated by scumbags.
