Paypal what a load of bull it is happening to all accounts and just about every transaction it is not random. You should tell the truth. It is wrong that you keep this money it is our money. You are using the wording SECURITY CHECK as a loophle so that you can hang on to the money for as long as possible to get more interest. The fact is you are not doing any security checks .I will be making a formal complaint to the CSSF about this  as the new ruling is that monies should be paid straight away into current accounts and this took affect on th 1/1/12

Technically, all accounts are covered by Faster Payments and the new EU directive.

Accounts where the cash should be instantly available include:

  • Current accounts
  • Standard savings accounts
  • Credit card accounts (where payment is made to clear or reduce a balance)
  • Payments to HMRC for tax

It is time to tell your customers the truth it is a loophole you are using to hold on to our money

The smallest we've done is about £35 and the largest around £300 - all with the same delay.  Another thought, bearing in mind some people have apparently had no delays, is whether it's different with one bank versus another.  Our business account is with Santander.  I have another Paypal account linked to a personal account at Nationwide and I'm toying with the idea of trying a withdrawal to them to see if it's different.  After all, if there's any financial institution that's more of a shambles than Paypal it's probably Santander Business.

When I tried to withdraw money I got a message saying that it was 'under review' and could take up to 21 hours to be processed and I was asked if I wanted to proceed. It wasn't until after I confirmed I wanted to continue with the withdrawl I received an email stating it could now take up to 72 hours.

How can it suddenly take an extra 51 hours to process a simple request?

It's obvious that the original message is a complete lie and when I tried to email them about it all I got back was an automated reply so it's obvious nobody at paypal reads any complaints let alone acknowledges them.

I finally managed to speak to someone at paypal who informed me that this 'security review' happens to each and every transaction but couldn't or wouldn't tell me any more details and wouldn't connect me to someone who knew what was happening and how long this ridiculous process would take.

If I don't get my money in my account by the end of the 72 hours there will be a letter in the post to the FSA and hopefully they will be able to put an end to this nonsensical behaviour.

I have also finally been told the truth I believe by a paypal representative, but only after I told her that I had been on the forum and I knew this wasn't an isolated problem. She then admitted that their system wasn't able to process the number of transactions they get, through the new faster payments system. Basically, despite the extortionate fee they charge for using their service, their system just isn't up to the job. But rather than admit their failure they'd rather their customers think that they themselves are slightly dodgy and have been put under security review.  ......Nice!

I agree that they should be honest and instead of these fake security reviews they should just say that while they try to iron out the issues with their system, faster payments could take up to 24 hours to process. At least we'd know where we stand.

3 transactions attempted, 2 held up for "Security Reasons" which are obviously nothing to do with security.

For a global service dealing with vast flows of money Paypal takes a commission which should make them awash with adequate funds to get the faster payments service right.  They haven't been exactly quick to adopt the only useful thing the banking industry has (reluctantly) come up with this millenium.

But they MUST be clear to their customers about what is happening.  I had no idea they were even adopting this such was the poverty of their communication.  Livelihoods depend upon certainty of transaction.  No business can survive with funds floating around cyberspace.  Will there be compensation where the delay in payments has resulted in penalties being imposed for overdrafts incurred, payments not met?

The email Paypal sent me saying that my payment had been delayed "for security reasons" had a link to the User Agreement.  Following this link took me to an old Paypal site and the message that finding this inoperative site was the result of my using old bookmarks.  If they can't get the right link there......

I really am sick to death of this, for about a week it was fine, almost instant into my bank account, but now EVERY time I try and withdraw my own money (my wages) I have to wait 24 hours for the 'review'....

How is it that Paypal and eBay are allowed to have their own rules despite what the law says....
