Linked to my bank account, but my status is still unverified.

I took all the steps to become verified - more than once -  inlcuding linking to my bank account, however, my status still shows that I'm unverified.  Can somebody please tell me why?

You're definitely correct, in the US, adding and confirming a bank account will make you Verified.

However, it's a two step process. 

Step one is adding a bank account.

Step two is checking your statement for our two small deposits, each between a penny and a dollar, and then entering those on the reminder on your main page. 

If the numbers match, the b ank account is "confirmed" and you become Verifed.
