Secure key bug?

Message sent to Paypal email today - is this an issue that you have noticed & can provide help with please? "There appears to be a significant bug in your new 'secure key' handling software. I have registered my mobile phone for this purpose so that you can send an SMS with the secure key code when I login. However when i attempt to pay vendors through Paypal on my iPad several times now when I enter my password only (no secure key added) I'm told that I should have entered my password & secure key together where it's assumed the secure key is available on my dedicated secure key device which I do not possess - you give no option to send the key via SMS. Is this a recognised bug & Is there a workaround for this?"

+1 Couldn't purchase from woodcraft.com of my ipad because of exactly this problem. Not sure if it is site-dependent or if PayPay simply doesn't work on the iPad. I've had this problem before a year ago. Not sure what site. Makes Paypal useless and loses business for vendors.

Also having this issue. Seems the only way to resolve this is by deactivating the security key, as confirmed by paypal....

pointless creating it if it doesn't work properly!

"Please add the number on your security key to the end of the password to login." Wtf? I get this message every time I try to buy from my iphone. It has been the exact same problem for at least a year now. I don't know if I've ever been up to make a purchase using my iPhone. Yet I'm able to spend thousands of dollars literally in PayPal over year from my computer. In fact I was able to read this forum, login successfully and write this remark using my iPhone. Just can't make a purchase because it keeps asking me to add my key onto the end of my password when I get to the login screen. What is this number they're talking about and why can't I get it directly from that page or why do I even need it at all? I just want to spend my money. PayPal, isn't that how you make your money by spending ours?

Still getting this problem. When on mobile device and paying with PayPal through an app or chrome, I get taken to the mobile website. When I log in, it does not redirect to the next page where it asks you to generate the security code SMS, and instead errors, saying to add the number from your security key to the end of the password. When using chrome, I get around this by selecting "request desktop site" in chrome's menu, which works most of the time, but when using any other app that does not allow this feature, I get the error because I can only view the mobile version. it's like the mobile version of the site is still geared up for the physical security key only, and doesn't have any link to view the desktop version of the login where the "Send SMS" button is available.

Yes completely useless and has been for a couple of years! How they can not have fixed this is beyond me! How can PayPal not have known about this and fixed it 2 years ago! Do they not test or have anyone who uses a mobile! It is infuriating every time I want to purchase something and now I do not use PayPal whenever possible and actually go to other shops just so I can pay by normal card. PayPal you are loosing customers and money. Why have you not fixed this?!

I have managed to work out the issdue and it now works for me.

Login to your PayPal account and go to Profile > My Settings > Security Key > Update

Highlight your VIP token and select Deactivate > click Deactivate Security Key, it will now show as Deactivated.

Highlight your VIP token and select Activate, enter two codes from the token as instructed, click Activate. You should get a message "Your security key is now active. It should now be re-synchronised.

When paying for purchases, use your PayPal password followed by the Security Code and it should now work. Use same process to login to PayPal also.
