Phone number won't register, I live in China and U.S.

Hello,

I am an American living in China. I have a Chinese phone. I registered using an online phone number through google voice. I am able to both call and text using my computer with this phone number.

However, when I try to put money in my bank account from PayPayl, it keeps asking me to verify my number..

I repeatedly get an error message saying "I can only use a phone number registered to me." Please help. I need to use this phone number because I spend time in both China and the U.S. so I need something that works in both places. Also, I DID register this phone with PayPal 😞

I have the same problem, whereas I now only live in China and my account is German. Seems like I cannot register a Chinese Phone number. KR

it could be YOUR phone number is not recognised as a local phone number.

if your Paypal account is based in Germany or USA,then Paypal expects a German or US phone number.

if you are now living in another country,you can open a PAYPAL account in that country,link your US bank account and local bank account.

if you want to use a credit card already registered  to US Paypal account,you need to remove it first and then add to your Chinese Paypal account,a credit card can only be linked to one PAYPAL ACCOUNT while being an American expatriate,you can always link you US bank account to your foreign Paypal account

Sounds very complicated. So did I understand right?

My situation:

- Paypal Account based in Germany and shall remain so.

- Linked bank account is a German bank account and remains so.

- Ony thing phone number changed to a Chinese number and I would like to add that. 

Solution:

- It is not possible to just change the phone number.

- I have to open another Paypal account and link my German bank account (or CC), but in this case I have to  remove it from my German Paypal account, what means I cannot use the German Paypal account anymore.

Is that right?

you can keep your German Paypal account,it is just that a credit card cannot be linked to more than one Paypal account,so you have to decide which one should the credit card be linked to.

as for your German bank account,it would stay with your German PAYPAL account ,it cannot be linked to your Chinese paypal account.

The reason why a US citizen or resident going overseas can link his US bank account and local bank account to his new Chinese Paypal account is because Paypal is a US company and it offers this as a courtesy to US members.

If you are going to stay in China ,then open a Chinese based PAypal ACCOUNT with Chinese address,phone number and bank account,but you can keep the GErman PAYPAL account and use it when you are back in Germany.

hopping back and forth between your Chinese and German paypal account may not be a good idea,as Paypal security may think someone is hacking one of your accounts.
